NEW SEASON APPROACHES a BY SKIP The attendance on the various winter greens on Saturday was well up to the mark and a number of new players were noted. The greens were in good order, due to the line weather experienced. The siirnmer season is now fast approaching and club officials are having a busy time preparing the programme of events. Even play characterised the game for the Denison Pins between Hunt's Takapuna team against the challenging Grey Lynn rink, skipped by E. E. Buckley. The home team scored a four on tho opening head, but Grey Lynn soon drew up and went on to take the lead by ' nine points on the eighth head. On the twelfth head matters looked serious for Grey Lynn, but Buckley arrived with a timely draw and secured the actual shot to rob the homo side of five shots. 1 On the nineteenth head the score was 16-all and on the twentieth head Taka- ' puna was lying well when Caddy made 1 the head dead. On the replay Mayson put in two : fine shots which were not displaced and ' Grey Lynn commenced the last head 1 two points up. In spite of strenuous 1 efforts tho holders could not score tho ; necessary two points to tie and they ' had to be content with a single which 1 gave tho challengers a win by a single ' point, the score being 18—17. Tho next ! challenger is J. Hodd, Carlton. 1 Hooper's Takapuna rink journeyed to - Rawhiti in quest of the Edwin Stars, { but found tho home team, skipped by Chiplin, in fire at scoring mood and was j defeated. The visitors opened the scor- t ing with a single to which Rawhiti replied with a run of 1, 4 and 1. Two singles to Takapuna resulted on the , following heads and then the holders re- J covered with a series of 1, 4, 3 and 1, which made the score 15—3 in favour ; of Rawhiti with ton heads played. t thereafter the home side scored con- ( sistently in singlos and had a com- j manding lead until near the finish, { i' 1 ! a scorc five to Takapuna ] slightly reduced the leeway. The win- i ners were much the steadier team on 1 the day. The next challenger is J, R. c Lundon, Devonport. ]
