THAMES ORPHANS' CLUB
INAUGURAL MEETING HELD [BY TIELEGBAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] THAMES, Sunday The maugural meeting of the Thames Orphans' Club was held on Saturday evening, at which there were over 220 people [present. Fifty of these represented the Paeroa Orphans' Club, whoso permanent president, Mr. Percy Williams, acted as chairman. The club also arranged the musical programme, having brought the Paeroa orchestra with them.
During the evening Mr. Williams on bebalf of the Auckland Orphans presented Mr. Garland with a president's collar from which hung a gold jewel bearing the initials T.O.C. Another presentation was that of a gavel of oak from the Paeroa Orphans' Club. Mr. A. M. Samuel, M.P., as a foundation member of the Wellington Club, was welcomed by Mr. Garland. A very fine programme was presented, comprising an overture by the Paeroa Orphans' orchestra, songs by Messrs. Judson, Irwin, Hosking (Auckland) and Forrest; a violin duet by Messrs. G. Kerby and Dickson (Thames); humorous recitations and songs by Mr. McElwa.in (Auckland); and tricks and conjuring by "Cardo" (Auckland).
