DANGER ON GRAFTON BRIDGE

Sir, —Pedestrian and motor traffic on the bridge continues to increase, and there is frequently marked congestion, particularly on days when the hospital is open to visitors. One way to ensure the safety of those concerned is to erect a footway outside the present structure. Its necessity is beyond question. The utmost precaution should be taken to minimise danger. e have reached the stage when, unless an independent footway is promptly provided, there exists the probability of accidents. Not Yet Killed.

Sir, —It is rather amusing; to see that correspondents are still complaining about the supposed contradiction between the by-laws relating to footSaths in Queen Street and Grafton ridge. They evidently fail to realise that when the by-law says that on the bridge "Keep to the right-hand path" and in Queen Street "Keep to the left of the .path'' it amounts to practically, the same thing. The onlv difference is that there are twoway paths in Queen Street and oneway paths on the bridge. I am glad to'see that the council has at last decided to enforce the by-la\r on the bridge. As one who always _ believes in oDeying this "safety first" by-liw on the bridge, it is very annoying to meet people wilfully going in the wrong direction and trying to force you out of their way. As the path; are so narrow there is c.ily room for one-way traffic. Dibrvxo.
