iCONTEST AT CHALMERS DEMOCRAT CANDIDATE [by telegraph—owv correspondent! DUNEDIN, Sunday It has been announced that Captain Robert Frasor, of Dunedin, has been selected as Democrat candidate for Chalmers. Captain Fraser reached tho rank of lieutenant-commander during the war, and was Superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Dunedin from 1921 until his retirement in 1931. lhe seat is held by the Government member, Mr. A. E. Ansel I, who was elected in. 1928 as a lJcform member. MEETING AT TUAKAU SUPPORTERS OF MR. D. S. REID [from our own correspondent! TUAKAU, Saturdny An enthusiastic meeting of supporters of the present Nationalist member for Baglan, Mr. ]). S. Roid, was held in the Tuakau Town Hall last evening, 'lhe chairman of the Tuakau Town Board, Mr. Garnet Arrowsmith, presided over an attendance of about 70, which included representatives of tho Onewhero, Tc Kohanga, Pukekawa and "W hangarata districts. In an address Mr. Reid outlined tho steps taken bv the Government to meet the extraordinary conditions of the past three years, with particular reference to mortgage "legislation and the raising the exchange rate. Ho justified the latter on the grounds that the benefits t® primary producers outweighed all disadvantages. The speaker was accorded a vote of thanks. A social hour lollowed i;ho meeting.
