OBITUARY
AMERICAN OIL MAGNATE MR. EDWARD L. DOHENY (Received September 9. 5.5 p.m.) LOS ANGELES. Sept. s The death has occurred of Mr. Edward L. Doheny, of California, millionaire oil magnate, aged 79. The late Mr. Edward Laurence Doheny was born at Fond du Lao, Wisconsin, in August, 1856. For 20 years be prospected for gold and silver. Then in 1892 he turned his attention to oil and discovered several valuable fields in California and Mexico. Ho became president of the Pan-American Western Petroleum Company, the Petroleum Securities Company, the Mexican Petroleum Company of California and the Doheny Stone Drill Company, and chairman of the American Petroleum Company of California. During the Great War he was a member of the oil subcommittee of the Council of National Defence.
