TAURANGA CLUB [by telegraph OWN correspondent] TAURANGA, Monday The Tauronsa Golf Club's four-ball handicap resulted in a win for Johnston and Penney. with e a card; of 5 up, closely followed up Hay and Simmonds, 4 up. Other cards were:—Dykes and Simmons, 2 up; Joughin and McShane, 1 up; H'eald and Parker, rtll square; Jcflery and Lamport, 1 down. One match in tho senior championship was played, resulting in a win for Tovey from Batemnn, 1 up. Good golf was played by both contestants in windy conditions and on tricky greens. Thirteen holes were halved in a very even game, Tovey being fortunate in stymieing his opponent on the first and ninth greens. While his win was surprising to most after the excellent play of Bateman recently, it was well earned. Bateman was regarded as the probable championship winner, and the above result makes the event very open. Page plays Simmons, and Tovey now meets Lusk in the semi-final matches, and good contests are anticipated. In the junior event Wilson meets Tassell, and the winner will play Simmons in one somi-final. The other semi-finalists are Turner and Jeffory, and these.games should provide keen competition. In the consolation matches the senior event has not made much progress. Results so far are;— Hamilton won by default from Penney; Bradmore beat Mollcnard, G and 5: Snodgrass beat Bartlett, at the 20th; Goulding beat Merrielees, 3 and 2.
