BRIDGE TO BE REPAIRED [bt telegraph—own correspondent] OPOTIKI, Monday At the monthly meeting of the Opotiki County Council, Mr. J. H. Reid presiding, a letter was received from the Otara Settlors' Association asking for argent attention to the Tutaetoko Bridge, and offering to pay 25 per cent of tho cost. The council decided to grant tho request, the chairman stating that the back-block settler should be helped as much as possible. Figures in connection with the conversion of the county loans wero road by tho chairman, showing that the county's savings as tho result amounted to £(364 a year. The clerk was granted 25 guineas in connection with the loan conversion. Four tenders received for protective work at Waiotahi Bluff, alternative prices being tendered for round and straight timber. The tenders were:— Mahy, £341 lis 5d and £355 8s 9d; J. G. Kerr, £344 4s and £400; A. E. Neeee, £396 4s 3d and £4lO Is 9d; Lnngdon, £345 14s and £352 12s Bd. Tho tenders are to be referred to tho Highways Board. The engineer, Mr. W. Upton, reported on tho damage done to the roads last month by the heavy rains, stating that a serious washout occurred near Malcolm's at Kutarere, and that ho considered a concrete culvert sft. or 6ft. square was required. The cost would be £IOO for one 24ft. long.
