POWER FOR TRAMWAYS
FLAT RATE CHARGE TRANSPORT BOARD DECISIONS Decisions bearing on the negotiations for a new flat rate price to ho charged to the Auckland Transport Board per unit of electricity used on its tramway system were made at a meeting of tho hoard yesterday. On tho motion of tho chairman, Mr. H. G. It. Mason, M.P., recommendations on tho subject made by the whole board in * committee were adopted. Tho recommendations were that a flat rate charge of .675 d per unit should be adopted for five years from April 1, 1935, subject to the following conditions:—The making of appropriate allowances if the rate of exchange is altered and if the price of power charged by the Government is reduced; that it is understood the existing agreement is not abrogated, but merely suspended during the currency of the flat rate charge; and that the decision is subject to the advice of the board's solicitor. Tho matter was discussed recently by tho Auckland Electric-Power Board, when it was reported that a basis of .675 d per unit on a minimum annual consumption of 18,000,000 units was recommended by a sub-committee, if tho Transport Board was not prepared to extend the period beyond fivo years. The matter was left for further report.
