FORCED LANDING

MACHINE CARRYING GOLD WRECK. IN AUSTRALIAN DESERT (Received September 8, 9.35 p.m. > ... ADELAIDE. Sept.. 8 A Transcontinental Airways Monospar aproplane, carrying a consignment of gold, made a forced landing owing to a shortage of petrol on a flight from Darwin to Adelaide yesterday, and was wrecked. The pilot and two passengers, .however, were not injured.

A search party which left Alice Springs found one of the two passengers, Mr. C. Renfrev, tramping through the desert 15 miles from Aileron, a Biriall station on tho transcontinental telegraph line. The aeroplane had landed about 40 miles from the nearest habitation, and the pilot, Mr. M. Mather, and the other passenger, Mr L. Moloney, remained to guard the gold, while Mr. OStenfrey set out for help. The party was without food or water, and Mr. Renfruy had been struggling across the desert in the blazing sun for two dayij and was on the point of exhaustion when he was found by the searchers. A rescue party is on its way to tho wrecked machine.
