KEEPING THE CRADLES FULL
Sir, —"Average Cocky" does not seem to realise that the question of keeping the cradle full isi a matter of means. I consider it a crime to bring poor, harmless mites into this world without having sufficient to feed, clothe and educate them. Now, where are the most under-nourished and ill-clad children to be found:' They are not in the farming community, where your correspondent says the biggest number of children pec family are. Thei old "grey mare" has been turned out, and farmers now have modern cars. working people cannot afford them. He says that city couples are dodging hard facts and responsibilities. They certainly are not. Many of us would gladly add to our families, had we the encouragement the farmers have had. Early in August the acting-Prime Minister, in a speoch at Dannevirke, said that to counteract the effects of depression the farmers had been helped to the extent of over £14,000.000 per annum. Now we are not growling about this in the least. We just want your correspondent to realise tine city people have done their share directly and indirectly. If we had this amount of assistance we would gladly do our share in keeping our cradles, full. City Couple—One Child.
