HOPES OF RELEASE
AUCKLAND MISSIONARY RANSOM SENT TO BANDITS DEMAND GREATLY REDUCED (Received August 28 , 7.25 p.m.) Times Cable LONDON, Aug. 28 The Peking correspondent of the Times says the negotiations for the release of Messrs. A. Hayman, of Auckland, and R. A. Bosshardt, of Switzerland, the two missionaries who were captured by bandits last October, have entered upon the final delicate stages. The ransom money, the amount of which the Communists greatly reduced, has been handed to couriers and it is hoped that the missionaries will be released in a few days. "After months and months of anxiety and worry, it is wonderful to receive news like this," stated Mrs. J. E. Hayman, of Symonds Street, mother of the Auckland missionary, when informed last evening of the prospects of her son's early release. "All along, however, we have felt that my son and Mr. Bosshardt would be released in the end. We know that countless prayers have been going up from all over New Zealand, Switzerland and even California, where I have another son a pastor in the Baptist Church," said Mrs. Hayman.
