DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIP WHITE DEFEATS GOODHEW Tho New Zealand amateur billiards championship was opened last evening at the Vulcan Billiards parldurs with a match between M. D. White, the Auckland champion, and E. <T. Goodhew, former champion. White gained a somewhat easy victory. Both players commenced badly and Goodhew led his opponent at the first 150 points. White then found his touch, and in three consecutive visits to the table, with the aid of well-played breaks of 82, 92 and 80, took his score to 203 Goodhew had a bad run of the balls and failed in what looked like proving profitable breaks through just losing position. White added 48 and 44 in Quick succession Goodhew replied with a nice break of 19, but from this stage White* continued to have much the better of the game, and ran to points with a aplendid unfinished top of-the-table break of 90, the balls being in perfect position for a continuation. The scores were:—White, ORG; Goodhew, 284. White's best breaks were 21, 38, 82, 92, 48, 41 and DO unfinished; average, 12. Goodhew's breaks were 20. 24, 38 and 49. The game for to-night is between B. W Warren, who has won the event on three occasions, and J. Donohue, who was runner up in tho Auckland open championship. LINDRUM AND McCONACHY Tho world-famous billiards champion, Walter Lindrum, Australia, and Clark McConachy, New Zealand, wdl commence a 10 days' match at tho Unity Hall next Tuesday, and their visit is creating considerable interest among billiards enthusiasts. The performances of Lindrum in England caused him to be recognised as the greatest player the game has yet produced. Giving away large starts, ho beat the leading English players with ease, making many records, bin efforts culminating in a world's record break of 1137. McConachy also has some fine performances to his credit. When n new rule was ntroduced compelling a player to cross tho baulk line once in every 200 points, he made a record break of 1927. Recently in Wellington, with the striker to cross the baulk lino in the last 20 points of each 200, McConachy compiled a break of 1177, At tho end of each session tho players will give exhibitions of snooker and trick shots. The sessions will be from 8 o'clock to 5.30 and 8 to 10.30 daily.
