While Guthrie was hurtling behind Husk round a bend at 100 miles an hour their machines skidded and ltusk seriously injured one hand. Guthrie astonished the spectators by remounting his Norton. He won the race, averaging 90 to 98 miles an hour. Handley, also riding a Norton, was second.
