Aug. 2/3 In the first round of match play in the amateur golf championship of Australia to-day J. Ferrier beat the title-holder, T. S. McKay, 5 and 4. McKay was slightly indisposed. W. Rymill beat H. Payne, 7 and 6; L. Duffy beat J. Barkel, 8 and 7; S. Morpeth beat S. Dalrymple, 2 and 1; H. HattersleKr beat W. Edgar, 4 and 3; H. Wright beat A. McLachlan, 4 and 3; A. Jackson beat M. Ryan, 3 and 2; R. Grook beat L. Toms, 2 and 1. The first round of match play in the professional championship resulted:— V. Richardson beat W: Spicer, 10 and 8; F. McMahon beat J. McLachlan, 7 and 5; R. Stewart beat M. Kelly, 5 and 4; C. Gray beat J. Cohen, 2 up; W. Bolger beat F. Thompson, 3 and 1; H. Boorer beat A. Toogood, 2 and 1; Martin Smith beat E. Naismith at the 37th; G. Naismith beat W. Harvey, 2 and 1. In the play-off in the foursomes golf championship of Australia Rymill and Ackland-Horman 77, defeated. Sawers and Crook 78.
