TRAINING FOR THURSDAY REFRESHER'S GOOD FORM IMPROVEMENT BY RED FOX [by TELECRAPH —OWN CORRF.aPOVIJIJ.VrI NEW PLYMOUTH. Monday The New Plymouth tracks were in splendid order for training operations on Saturday morning, when all the galloping took place on tho course proper, with the flags close in. Refresher was too good for Golden Ilill over five furlongs in 1.6, finishing well clear. Refresher has worked exceptionally well lately and is likely to start a good favourite in the Waihau Handicap on Thursday. Glenvane and Tahurangi were on terms at tho close of seven furlongs in I.;M. Silk Sox completed a working gallop over a circuit by running the last halfmile in 545. Ho claims two engagements on Thursday, but will probably start in tho Ladies' Bracelet, in which he will be ridden by Mr. 11. G. Topless. Orapai was restricted to steady pace work on the inside. He jumped five hurdles in good stylo on Friday morning. Razor worked lazily over a circuit, tho last live furlongs occupying 1.14. He has not had a great deal of fast work and tho gallop should do him good. Rod Fox surprised by beating Joy Box decisively over half a mile in 54 2-5s In his last two gallops ho has displayed marked improvement, finishing very resolutely. Davistoek and Aussie Ra covered seven furlongs in 1.42. They were doing only three-quarter pace over tho first part, but ran the last three furlongs in 41s, coming homo full of running. Ngaterahiri and Whoa Johnnie were practically on terms at the conclusion of half a" mile in 55Js. Without being hurried, both these maidens are making steady progress. Ngapapa was schooled over four fences. She jumped tho first thrco safely, but nearly unseated her rider at tho last. GALLOPS AT HAWERA HALF-MILE BY LOWENBERG SOLOIST SCHOOLS WELL [by TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPO.VDhVrI HAWERA. Monday Some interesting work by candidates for the New Plymouth hunt meetings and spring fixtures was executed at Uawera on Saturday morning. Galloping was done on the outside of tho course proper, which was very heavy. Notium shaped well in a two furlongs sprint down the back stretch. He has not been nominated for Wanganui, but, all going well, will make his first appearance in public in the Avondalo Stakes. Lowenberg surprised by easily defeating Worsen over half a mile, finishing three lengths to the good in 575. Lowenberg was impressive, but Fersen was troubled by the state of the track. Batitry, Ruaform and tho two-year-old Gay Patrick hopped off together at i the five furlongs peg. Gay Patrick was '.pulled up after covering the first two ! furlongs in 27 3-ss, and Ruaform went ' on to run right, away from Bantry. to ; occupy 1.12 1-5 for the full distance. , Ruaform went well fox a hurdler. 1 Bantry, however, was disappointing. H*» worked lazily, while he also appeared . to be troubled by the heavy going. Brilliancy (Excitement —Glittering), ! the Australian-bred two-year-old in O. Cox's stable, was given his first fast J: work when ho sprinted down tho straight in company with Friesland. The ] youngster strode along, in great stylo, ! pleasing by his neat action, and straight i style of galloping. He is to be given an outing in the Wanganui Debutant Stakes. Soloist was responsible for a firstclass display over a round of the training hurdleg. He jumped fast and cleanly throughout, and, if he tehees in this manner at New Plymouth on Saturday, must be hard to beat. Panloff and Just Otf were sent together over six fences. Just Off jumped evenly throughout, but Panloff was inclined to run about at his fences, although ho outpaced his companion on j the fiat.
