CATERPILLARS AGAIN
HAVOC IN VICTORIA GRASS DISAPPEARING An immense army of caterpillars has lately invaded several paddocks at West Brunswick, Victoria. In one paddock evej-y square foot of grass has been swarming with them. Bushes have been eaten bare, and in some places the grass also is disappearing. Some of the caterpillars have black-' hair and some have red hair; many of them ha.ve brown and grey stripes also. A naturalist said that they were very destructive to gardens. So far the caterpillars have practically confined their depredations to the paddocks, .but some have been seen busily eating young plants in cultivated gardens. These caterpillars, which are popularly known as "woolly bears," first appeared early in August.
