CLOSER SETTLEMENT
| NOKTH AUCKLAND AREAS EXTENSIVE FARM SCHEME COMPREHENSIVE SOIL SURVEY [BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI. Monday It is stated by Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P. for Marsden, that the departments of Scientific and Industrial Research, Agriculture and Lands, and the Unemployment Board are preparing a comprehensive closer settlement scheme for North Auckland and Hawke's Bay. The plan provides for the allocation of areas suitable for settlement and subdivision, the extension of dairying, sheep, citrus and small fruit farms, and tung oil and tobacco plantations, as well as guidance for other farm problems. Mr. Murdoch said that a soil survey of an extensive tract north of Auckland will be carried out. It is also hoped to discover minerals such as aluminium, the working of which would create increased employment.
