AUSTRALIAN'S PREDICTION V GENERAL WITHIN FIVE YEARS LONDON, Aug. 14 The general manager of the SKY broadcasting station, Sydney, Mr. k. II Voigt, has arrived in London from Germany and Russia. He says he is deeply impressed by developments in television, which he says he expects will b3 operating commercially throughout the world in five years. Mr. Voigt says that Australia muitt reshape its broadcasting policy immediately, as television is certain to cause revolutionary changes in broadcasting, which will be entirely replaced as surely a-i silent films were replaced by talkies. Practical television was seen by Mr. Voigt in operation in Germany with surprising efficiency. It will necessitate tho scrapping of existing transmission and receiving apparatus and tho replacement at heavy cost of Australian commercial stations. Private manufacturers, he says, already are planning to meet development. Mr. Voigt says he is convinced that the Australian broadcasting system is superior to that of any nation, and that competition between commercial and Government controlled stations is essential to ensuro the best programniesi Australian stations, however, must increase their power to provide officient service for widespread listeners, as at present they are lagging far behind Europe in this respect. Russia is said by Mr. Voigt to bo in tho forefront of technical aspects of broadcasting, but not in quality of programmes.
