PUBLIC SERVICE HEAD
QUESTION OF REPLACEMENT SMALL COMMISSION SUGGESTED [from our own correspondent] CHKISTCnURCH, Sunday The replacement of the Public Service Commissioner, Mr. P. Verschaffelt, who resigned from office recently, will shortly be considered by tho Government. It is thought probable that a small commission will bo appointed to carry on the work previously handled by the commissioner himself. Tho Prime Minister, the lit. Hon. G. W. Forbes, said to-night that the Government had not discussed tho position since his return from England, but that tho replacement of Mr. Vorschaffelt would have to bo considered soon. It is suggested that in view of the wide and exacting work connected with the office . two men, or even three, should share its responsibility. One suggestion mado is that tho Government should appoint a commission of three with a well known public servant as chairman. Tho Government, however, has not considered tho matter formally, and Mr. Forbes was not in a position to say anything definite.
