AMBITIONS AT GOLF

REDUCING A HANDICAP SIR G. WHISKARD'S HOPE LONDON, A tier. 14 The newly-appointed British High Commissioner to Australia, Sir Geoffrey Whiskard, admitted to-day that his private ambition was to reduce his golf handicap. He said it was 16 at present and he hoped, while in Australia, to reduce it to single figures. " I spent the afternoon trying to polish up my drive, but I am afraid I did not progress far," said Sir Geoffrey. "I am told that the front gate of my Canberra home looks out on the 11th or 17th green—l forget which—and I am hoping to put in some useful work there. " I am happy in the knowledge that my appointment will enable me to see the cities of which I have only a blurred impression, as I was overwhelmed with correspondence on my previous visit in 1927." Ono of Sir Geoffrey's hobbies is cabinetmaking. Ho said he •was afraid he would have to forgo this, as more important things than chisels and screwdrivers were likely to occupy his hands in Australia.
