THE TROTTING TRACK

SOLID WORK AT EPSOM AUTO MACHINE'S DASH NIMBUS GOES TWO MILES BY M3AYDOS Although the footing was a trifle dead, the dirt track at Epsom was in good order on Saturday, and the majority, of the horses racing at the coming meeting were sent along solidly. Auto Machine (A. Brown) gave Nimbus (A. W. Broughton) about two lengths' start from the two miles, Wee Machine (W. joining in at the mile and a-half, Replica (S. M. August) at the mile and a-quarter, and Aeriel Bc;II (C. G. Lee) at the mile, and, after trailing the others into the straight, he came through with a brilliant effort t.o win in 4.36 3-5. When Wee Machine joined issue tho pare was improved, and he took Nimbus to the mile in 2.21, where Aeriel 8011, going away in front, set a good pnee and carried the others to the mile and a-half in 3.30. Crossing the top Replica dropped back, while Nimbus and Wee Machine went after the

leader and Auto Machine moved up on the rails. Tho speed was right on in the straight and Auto Machine, after a slight check, got through to win from Aeriel Bell, who was just in front o f Nimbus, and run his last half in 1.6 3-5. Auto Machine was slights lame on pulling up, but after cooling off appeared all right. Nimbus' time for the two mile« was 4.39. Bodman) began more quickly than Autumn Lou (G. H. Stubbs) from the mile and a-half and maintained a slight advantage to the finish in 4.2. They were hardly out of a jog early, but ran the last mile in 2.35. Mountain Sun (W. Fleming) trotted two miles in 5.0, marring what promised to be a neat display by a bad lapse entering the -straight the last time. He ran the first mile and a-half in 3.45. Golden Bramble (W. Willetts) and Bingen Sun (G. Webb) worked steadily over two circuits, and the former then ran a mile alone in 2 29. War Girl (J. Gieson) sprinted a fast quarter down the back, but tangled hefore completing a half. He then attempted to give Star Pronto <B. Dyer) three lengths' start in a mile, but, although he reached the leader in the straight, could not sustain the effort, Star Pronto finishing a little over a length to the good in 2.17. Worthy Nor (P. M. Morrison) | jumped away from the mile anci a-half post, and, as she approached the mile and a-qunrter at a moderate pace, Direct Line (J. Paton) went off a few lengths ahead of her. Worthy Nor increased the speed to overhaul Direct Line in the straight and beat him comfortably. her time being 3.41 <i-o. Worthy Nor, who was never unduly pressed, trotted faultlessly, and ran the last half in 1.10 4-5. Mountain Dell (L. Mitchell) conceded Kewpie's Triumph (J. Gee) four seconds start in a mile and a-half and •just shaded him at the finish in 3.34. Kewpie's Triumph did not make much use of his allowance and as she; reached the mile in 2.28 3-5 'Mountain Dell was right in behind him. The price was then increased and Mountain Dell headed Kewpie's Triumph near the post, running the last half in 1.9. Kewpie's Crest Pleases Kewpie's Crest (J. Gee) went away a second ahead of Kewpie's Guy (W. Gee), with Blandford (A. W. Broughton) going a second later from the mile and a-half, and at the mile and a-quarter Charteris Bay (A. Cole) hopped out in front of Kewpie's Crest, who finished the winner in 3.37. He set no pace for the first quarter, which took 40s, but when he reached Charteris Bity the pair drew right away, passing the mile in 2.25.
