DOMINION STUDENTS
RESIDENT IN ENGLAND " t "LONDON HOUSE" APPEAL The need for the extension of residential accommodation for young men from the Dominions who go to study in London has been greatly felt for some time, and an appeal is being made by the Dominion Students' Hall Trust for financial support from the Dominions for the completion of "London House," •which was founded to offer a homo to students from overseas. Its aim is to Becure for them as far as possible an environment similar to that of the colleges of some of the ancient universities, ■with the opportunity of meeting men of their own age from other parts of , the Empire. v Under the chairmanship of the late JVTr. Frederick Craufurd Goodenough, formerly chairman of Barclay's Bank, the governors of "London House" were able to raise no less than £200,000, of which £28,000 has yet to be received by instalments. From the total sum, £132,000 has been spent on the purchase of a fine freehold' island block of resits- dential houses in Mecklenburgh Square, Bloomsbury, and the property is situated within easy distance of the new site" of London University. There are at present 57 students in residence, and there is a considerable ■waiting list. The candidates for admission are carefully selected, and a very high standard is maintained. The number of students who have passed through "London House" since its opening in 1931 is 240,' drawn from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the Khodesias, and Great Britain.
