HARRIER RACING
CONTESTS ON SATURDAY JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP RACE FRENCH AND CLAPHAM TIE The Auckland provincial cross-coun-try harrier junior championship was decided at Avondale on Saturday over a course of 51 miles, comprising both even and broken country. The race was held under ideal conditions and resulted in a tic between Clapham (Calliope) and French (Papntoetoe), with V. Matthews (University) third. The winners' time was 27m 525. French was leading Clapham at an early stugo of the race and at the hnlf-wHy mark the pair had a lead of some 70 yards over Matthews. With two miles to go French and Clapham were together and were seldom far apart ior the rest of the race, crossing the line together. Matthews was 170 yards behind, followed by Brown, Ohms, Anderson and Edgar. TECHNICAL OLD BOYS' CLUB The Technical Old Boys' Harrier Club held a run on Saturday from Domain Street. A win of about six miles was covered, including two laps of the Domain and a circuit through Bassctt Road back into the Domain. The fast pack, led by Brierly, ran a longer course and came homo through Parnell. R. Day led the slow pack, and the handicap runs-in resulted as follows: Fast Pack—S. Wade. 1; C. T. McCombs, 2; N. Brierly, 3. Slow Pack.—W. S. Wiltshire, 1; B. Knight, 2; E. J. Laird, 3. PRESBYTERIAN CLUB The Presbyterian Hairier Club held a run from Takapuna on Saturday. In the slow pack McGill, Field and Hancock set a solid pace, while in the intermediates Mandeno and Y.uing figured prominently The results of the runs in were as follows: Slow Pack.—Devitt, 1; Hancock, 2; Mercer. 3. _• Intermediate Pack.—Mandeno, 1; Rice, 2; Young, 3. Fast Pack.—Neil. 1: Ross. 2; Crawford, 3. WESLEY CLUB Twenty members attended the Wesle> Harrier Club's run from the F.psom Metho dist Church on Saturday. A course of some five miles was followed, embracing the One Tree Hill, Mount Smart and Te Papapa districts. The club ran as one pack. UNIVERSITY CLUB The University Harrier Cluh held a run from Mission Bay on Saturday over a course of about fij miles, comprising both road and cross-country work.
