MATAMATA CHAMPIONS SUCCESS OF WAROVILLE CLARKE CUP TO MORRINSVILLE Rugby competitions wore continued on Saturday in the various country centres of the Auckland Province. The Matumatn championship was won by A\ nrdville, while in the final of the Clarke Cup, Waikato junior championship, Morrinsville defeated Hamilton. The following results were forwarded by correspondents of the Hehald:— Matamata.—Wnrdville made certain of the Matamata Rushy Union's senior championship by defeating Matamata handsomely hv 26 points to 8. Before the came Matamnta leel by one point, and as Wardville s only other same is against the Hinuein. Huntly.—Juniors: Huntly High School Old Boys. 22, v. Whitikaliu, i: Huntly won fiom Orini by default. Primary schools: Taupiri Union representatives. 9. v. Ihe Rest, 8.

Ta Awamutu.—The mutch between Suburbs and Te Awamutu seniors did not take place, but spectators enjoyed the WaipaManiapoto junior representative match, for it was fast and exciting. Mr. F. Irwin, Otorohanga, was referee. The visitors opened the scoring' when Searancke bustled over for a try. but T. Dalziel equalised with a penalty kick. Then Herewini scored for Maniftpoto and Barlow converted. Again Dalziel kicked a penalty coal, and just after half-time he kicked his third goal to place Waipa one point in the lead. Barlow scored a try and converted it, to make Maniapoto 13 —9, but five minutes later Rogers kicked a field goal, to even the score Although the pace was fast and play bright and interesting no further score resulted, the game ending in a draw—l 3 points nil. As curtain-raisers High School defeated Te Awamutu by 10 points to 3, and Old Boys defeated Suburbs by 22 to 0, in the third grade championship.

□argavlltfl.—The final of the Powell Shield competition for third grade representatives of the North Auckland Rugby Union was played between Northern Wairoa and Mangonui. The fame was played under dry conditions and sparkling play was witnessed, the local team throwing the ball ahout well and compiling a cricket score. Tries were scored by Hansen (2), Curry (2), Cleaver (2). Webb (2), Crawford, Plummer. Anderson, L. Hansen and Bonner. Sloane converted five. The final score was:— Northern Wairoa, 49: Mangonui. 0. Seniors, Coetello Shield: Ruawai (holder) drew with Southern, there being no score. Juniors, Harding Cup knock-out competition: Kaihu Valley, 17, Tangowahine, 11. Tauranga.—'The Tauranga Rugby. Union's juniorß (holders) failed to withstand a challenge for the Shalfoon Shield by Rangitaiki juniors. The game was a forward contest. Fifteen minutes alter the start M. Murray made a run from halfway and scored brilliantly to give Tauranga a lead of three points. A little later Laurie gained a try for Rangitaiki from a loose rush. The Pipiwai team was completely overshadowed, and was unfortunate in not being in a position to replace three players, who retired on account of injuries. Manukau.—Tho first intersub-union representative mntch this season tho control of the South Auckland Rugby Union was played at Papakura between the Manuknu Sub-union team and Mangatawhiri. Mannkau won by 14 points to 3. A good standard of football was maintained throughout, the Mannkau backs combining _ well. The Mangatawhiri team was not quite at full strength, owing to the South Auckland representative team playing against Thames Tries for Manukau were scored by Parker (2), E. Cossey and Sleeth. Ono was converted by Miller. During the first spell Waterhouse, a Mannkau forward, was injured. and whs replaced by Sleeth. As a curtain-raiser a match was played between A and B representative teams chosen from within the Manukau Sub-union. Tho B team won by 14 points to 6.
