COMBATING RABBITS

LARGE NUMBERS DESTROYED The seriousness of the rabbit post in the Waitotara County Council's area is adequately indicated by the report of the Patea Rabbit Board's officer in charge of poisoning operations. These have just been completed, and in the Waitotara district block 10,000 rabbits were poisoned, one man accounting for as many as 8771. When the ground was covered a second time 350 rabbits were poisoned, most of them being young animals. In addition to those destroyed in this area, 8000 were poisoned in the Wangaeliu area. Altogether in the last 20 months over 24,000 rabbits have been killed.
