THE CLASSIC CLUB

A varied programme was presented at the Classic Club's 9th meeting of the season on Tuesday evening. The president, Dr. S. K. Phillips, presided. The. performers included:—Miss Clare Brown, who sang " The Valley of Dreams " song-cycle (Vincent-Thomas), " Like a Rosebud " and " Song of the Open" (La Forge); Miss Judith Glover who contributed " The Water Lily " (Essor), " Still as tho Night " (Bohm)j " Madrigal " and " Ritournelle " (Chaminado); Miss Edna Peaco (contralto), who sang " Tho Praise of God," " 1 Lovo Thee " (Beethoven), and "An Autumn Thought " (Massenet) ; Mr. John Ford, who sang " The Brown Bird " (A.L.), "Dawn Shall Over Lctho Break " (Besly), " Care Flies From tho Lad That is Merry " (M. Arne), " Greeting " and "On Wings of Song " (Mendelssohn), and Mr. J. T. Gibson, who sang " Loving Smile of Sister Kind " (Gounod), " Wayfarer's Night Song " (Martin), " Helen of Kirconnell " (Keel), "Hope the Hornblower " (Ireland). Pianoforte solos, Study in E Major, and Fantasia Impromptu in C Sharp Minor (Chopin), and " Reflets Dans I'Eau " and " Prelude " (Debussy), were rendered by Mr. Jack Buckley, and " The Island Spell " (Ireland), and " Marche Militaire " (Schubert-Tau-sig),.J)y Mrs. Maud Lysaght.
