NEW ZEALAND SPEECH
New Zealanders havo no distinct accent of thoir own, according to Mr. John H. Hopkins, of Sydney, who is to adjudicate tho elocutionary section of tho Wellington Competitions Socioty festival. "Although I have beeu in many parts of Now Zoaland in tho course of ten visits and have listened to thousands of competitors in elocutionary classes, 1 havo been unable to discover any distinctive accent to mark a difference between the speech of the average New Zealander and the average Australian," said Mr. Hopkins.
