OBITUARY
REV. A. T. HOLDEN PROMINENT METHODIST (Received August 20, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Aug. 20 The death has occurred of the Rev. Albert Thomas Holden, PresidentGeneral of the Methodist Church of Australia since 1932. The Rev. A. T. Holden, at one time General Superintendent for Methodist Home Missions in Victoria, entered the ministry in 1889 and formerly was a prominent figure in Methodism. He was among those placed on the supernumerary list at the Methodist Conference in Melbourne, at the end of 1931. Mr. Holden was a brother of Mr. G. F. Holden, chairman of the Harbour Trust, and was a past-president of the Methodist Conference and the Secre-tary-General of the Methodist Conference of Australia. He was chaplain to the Victorian Contingent in South Africa, served as a chaplain in the European war, and was the Methodist Chaplain-General in the Commonwealth Military Forces. He held several military decorations, and was a prominent Freemason. Mr. Holden was born at Geelong, Victoria, and educated at Geelong College and Ormond College, Melbourne Universitv. He received the freedom of the City of London in 1932. He is survived by his widow, one son and two daughters. MR. JOHN F. KIRBY FORMERLY IN fcUNEDIN (Received August 20, 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. Aug. 20 The death is announced of Mr. John F. Kirby, aged 74, secretary of the Entrepreneurs' Association. Formerly Mr. Kirby was industrial officer for the Union Steam Ship Company in New Zealand. He held this post with the company in Dunedin when its headquarters were there, but he left New Zealand some years before the war and had been living in Sydney since then.
