PAST YEAR REVIEWED SURPLUS OF NEARLY £4OO INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP A surplus fcr the year of £393 Os 4d is shown in the report and balancesheet to be presented a.t the anuual meeting of the New Zealand Golf Association on October 15. The council's report states that the total revenue for the year amounted to £1616 7s 4d, and the expenditure, which included £145 tor expenses in connection with the British golf team's tour,, amounted to £1223 7s. The surplus has been added to the accumulated fund. At the close of the financial year there were credit bank balances of £32 Bs and £IO2B 14s 7d. A record number of new clubs, 26, joined the, association during the year. One club, which has lost the us.e of land on which it had its linkfs found it necessary to resixm. but hopes to join again later The total membership ut the close of the year was 254. against 229, 212 and 200 in the preceding three years. The association engaged T.. W. Green and J. A. Clements to coach this season and eicellen' bookings were made for both men. As was the case laiit year, the appointments were only for the actual time required for coaching and both engagements have now been terminated. T. W. Green coached at ten clubs in the North Island and J A. Clements at nine in the South Island. The services of both professionals were much appreciated^ Excellent work continues, to be done by the New Zealand golf greens research committee. comprising Messrs. F. W. Hobbs (chairman) W. A. Kiely, M. H. Godby. A. Seifert, B. E. Keiller. H. R. Jones, S. Eaton, G H. Bolford. Every assistance is given by Messrs. E. Bruce Levy and R'. A. Madden ot the plant research station at Palmerston North. The standard scratch score sub-committee ha® allotted scores to 202 affiliated clubs. During December. 1934, and January, 1935, the British golf team visited New Zealand, members of the tenm bping the Hon. Michael Scott (captain), T A Bourn, L. G. Garnett and J. McLean The te;im was accompanied by Mr H. Gullen. secretary of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews Members of the British golf team played matches at the larger clubs and had an enjoyable stay in New Zealand.
