ELLERSLIE TRAINING

SOME INTERESTING WORK SOLID GALLOP BY KELLY GAY DEFENCE AND SIR ROMEO BY ARCHER In spite of the very heavy state of the tracks some highly interesting work was ijerformed at Kllerslie yesterday in preparation for the Paktiranga Hunt meeting on Saturday. The No. 3 grass, where the poles were out 10 feet, was available for galloping and the besteffort was recorded by Kelly, who carried a very light weight, and ran six furlongs in 1.20 1-5. Others to work pleasingly included Gay Defence, Sir Romeo, Baroscope and Jewelled Girdle. On the grass, Kelly (Gilchrist) wiip first out to roel off six furlongs in 1.20 1-5, the first three in 38 4-ss. The four-year-old has wintered well and promises to be in tip-top condition for his spring engagements. Courthnven (Stone) led Racing Lady (Parsons) over five furlongs in 1.12 2-5. Racing Lady was not bustled and she occupied 1.1-1 4-5. Fleetwind (Parsons) ran an easy four furlongs in 555. She is doing nicoly. Lord Vai (Clifford), after running the first three in 39 4-ss, completed six furlongs in 1.21 1-5. He finished solidly and it should not be for lack of condition if he fails to race prominently on Saturday, as R. S. Bngby has him very well.

Gay Defence (Manson) and Sir Romeo (Parsons) were associated in a solid piece of work over five furlongs in 1.6 4-5. Both went well and in appearance they are two of the most improved horses at Ellcrslie. Gay Defence has a lot of speed and should be a good hack this spring. Round by Kiltowyn

Sir Abb (Clifford) and Caliente (Walsh) were just in front of King March (Connor) at the end of four furlongs in 555. They were not asked for their best and were running along smoothly at the finish. Imamint (Williams), after being allotted some trotting, was under restraint while running three furlongs in 43 4-os. She was anxious to go faster and was hard held throughout.

Kiltowyn (Burgess) strode over a round in 1.52 1-5, the last six furlongs in 1.28 1-5. He is bright and muscular and has been doing his work very satisfactorily. D. J. Burgess, who has just recently recovered from injuries received in a fall from Cardhu at Trentham, has teen engaged to ride Kdtowyn on Saturday. Baroscope (Parsons) was going more strongly than Jewelled Girdle (Manson) at the "end of six furlongs in 1.20 3-5. It was a sound effort on the part of both horses, who have hnen working consistently well. A re|>ctition of his latest track form should make Baroscope very difficult to beat in the Jollicoe Handicap Express (Fearn) and Roman Mascot (Tremain) were timed to run four furlongs; in 54 4-ss, finishing together. Red Flame (Cammick) strode over the Bame distance in 565. Vera Acre (Sargent) and Hesken toon (Tremain) were associated over four furlongs in 56 1-5. They went smoothly throughout and are making steady progress. Wee Pat and Tybalt

Primak (Cammick) placed seven furlongs behind in 1.39 3-5, the last six in 1 24 3-5 Green Pntch covered three furlongs in .41 l-os. Valmint (Parsons) and Grand Tonic (Man son) went five furlongs in 1.11, the former going the easier at the finish. Wee Pat (Parsons) and Tybalt (McTavish) were clear of Air Lassie (Bentley) at the end of six furlongs in 1.21 2-5. The first three furlongs were run in 40s, and Wee Pat and Tybalt were running on soundly at the finish. Wee Pat is in great heart. Teddy Bo.v (Fearn) was better than Hunting Maid (Trcmain) at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.23 1-5, the first three taking 40 2-ss. It is some time since Teddy Boy displayed any form in public, but he looks well and is doing his work in sound style. Marching Song (Baker) encompassed a round in 1.51 3-5, the last six furlongs in 1.26 3-o He is hard in condition after his recent racing and may make a bold bid to win the Ladies' Bracelet for tho second year in succession. Tea Chat (Simpson) and Hawthorn (Tucker) jumped a Couple of hurdles without mistake and afterwards covered a round on the grass in 1.53 2-5. Volition (Baker) was schooled over four hurdles and fenced cleanly. He is quite a good jumper, but his form in public has not been up to expectations. Kahunoke Schooled

Ealiunoke (Mcllroy) and Zane Grey (Tucker) were sent over the steeplechase fences on the fiat and accomplished their task satisfactorily, although the former was somewhat strange. Kahunoke looks well. Zane Grey worked over a round on the grass earlier in the morning in 1.54. Parkhurst (Craddock) was responsible for a very satisfactory display over a round of tho steeplechase fences, although he got m rather close to the stonewall. He is in solid condition. Capella Abbey (Baker> gave a clean exhibition of jumping over a round of the steeplechase fences. He is in hard condition after his recent racing and is a reliable fencer who should make a good showing in the Pakuranga Hunt Cup. Gascille (Baker) and King Rod (Mr. Wells) were associated over a round of the steeplechase fences and gave a very satisfactory display, although the former did not take the last stonewall too well. Gascille and King Hod have both made some progress lately. Commencing at the fence near the mile post Semiarch went slowly over a round of the steeplechase fences. He was ridden by his owner and fenced carefully. Chief Emerald (Simpson), Supreme Ruler (Turvey) and Ruling King (Hcnnie) were sent over a couple of hurdles twice. Chief Emerald hit one fence very hard, otherwise they gave good displays, especially the second time. They afterwards did* strong work on the grass, running six furlongs in 1.35 4-5. Many other horses were restricted to useful tasks, among the number being Court Arma, Enlightenment, Heatherland, Ringehot, Barn Danoe, Charsong and Prince Abb. *
