VIGOFtOUS AT EIGHTY f JUST MIDDLE AGE" [from our own correspondent] SYDNEY, /tu,r. 12 Surpassing in mental and physical vigour many, men 20 or 30 years his .junior,."the Governor-General of Australia, Sir Isaac Isaacs, celebrated his 80th birthday, last Tuesday. Many hundreds of telegrams and cablegrams of congratulations and good wishes were received by this outstanding figure in Empire history. Chatting informally on his brrthday, Sir Isaac Isaacs remarked that he was in excellent health, and was keeling very ■well indeed. "Someone has said, ho added, "that it is not how old yoi are that counts, but how you are old The way I am old to-day, on my 80th birthday, is that I have just entered the infancy of middle age." When in Canberra, Sir Isaac Jsaacs generally wamps about six miles a day, beginning with a brisk walk ,ief °re breakfast. On his birthday he walked two miles before breakfast at 8.30 and bcga:a in his office at nine o clock. Ho took another walk at noon, hail lunch at one o'clock, listened to oversea radio stations 011 his short-wave set, an I was back at work at 2.15. Late in the afternoon he read the day's newspapers and took another walk before < lining with a small house-party at seven o'clock. Sir Isaac Isaacs has been tn turn teacher, lawyer, statesman, Jii'lgß Governor-General —the first Aistrali&n to ba appointed to the last-nan ec> high officii. His career has no parallel in Australian history. Although next year he will give way to another GjvernorGenoral, continuance of his present health will find him still in harness in another sphere.
