CYCLIST'S COURAGE
TRIBUTE TO C. A. CLARKE Members of the Manukan Club expressed last Saturday to a fellow member, C. A. Clarke, their appreciation of the courage he displayed in attempting to rescue the victims of the rocent drowning tragedy in ihe Waikato River at Hamilton. Clarke has been an active member of the club since 1926, when be won three events, including the Auckland provincial road championship title, under adverse conditions. Last season he won his club's annual championship event of 44 miles and was second fastest rider to J. Brown in the 100 miles Auckland provincial championship road race. Clarke is the only Auckland rider to have won a Palmerston North to Wellington race of 102 milqs, his victory being in the 1930 event, off 20m. Although not prominent in short rofid races he revels in distance work and has gained prominence in long events.
