TO-DAY'S PUBLICATION RACING AT CHRISTCHURCH GRAND NATIONAL MEETING The Grand National meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club at Riccarton forms the subject of the centre doublepage in the pictorial (section of this week's issue of The Weekly News, which is on sale to-day. The investiture with the pallium of Archbishop O'Shea, new Homan Catholic Metropolitan of New Zealand, makes another feature which will be of wide interest. Overseas topics include the spectacular silver jubilee review of the British Fleet off Spithead by the King, and subsequent fireworks displays and manoeuvres at sea. Two shipping mishaps are illustrated —the Niagara under repair after being damaged in collision with the motor-ship King Egbert, and the grounding of a large German oiltanker on the rocky coast of Cornwall, England. In the letterpress section, a full page is devoted to an illustrated article describing gold-seeking activities on the Shotover River, Central Otago. Special articles in the sporting pages include a survey of earlier matches in the All Blacks' itinerary by Mark Nicbolls, special Rugby critic to The Weekly News, and "Archer's" review of the form of horses entered in the Pakuranga Hunt meeting ;it Ellerslie next Saturday, Further items in the issue include the second instalment of Earl Haig's war diaries, describing the Allied armies' campaign up to the Battle of Mons, an essay by the Very Rev. W. R. Inge on capital punishment, and the final instalment of S. J. Gudsell's articles describing his experiences in working a way round the world.
