THEFTS FROM CARS
TWO MEN IMPRISONED Thefts of articles from motor-cars were admitted in the Police Court yesterday by William Gunson, mattress maker, aged 30, and Gordon Alfred Lownds, painter, aged 21. Five charges were jointly preferred against the accused, the value of the articles being £ll 14s. Senior-Detective Hall said the accused were seen in the city on August 12, testing the doors of motor-cars. They were later arrested by a constable when carrying rugs and overcoats, and subsequently admitted stealing them from cars. Both had previous convictions. On behalf of the accused, Mr. Aekins said their actions were the result of over-indulgence in liquor. The magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, sentenced each of the accused to one month's imprisonment.
