WELLINGTON MEETING DELEGATES F.ROM AUCKLAND CANDIDATES AND OTHERS DEPARTURE FOR THE SOUTH When delegates assemblo in Wellington to-day the first Dominion conferoncft of the Democrat Party will be opened and it is expected thnt decisions will bo reached which will determine tho future of the party. Seventeen delegates from the Auckland district left for the south by the afternoon and limited expresses yesterday and others are expected to travel south by train to-day. Although it was announced early this week that tho conference was to be composed of selected candidates, a number of those who lett Auckland yesterday were only prospective candidates. Those who went to Wellington included Mr. J. B. Donald, formerly member of Parliament for Auckland East and Postmaster-General in the United Cabinet, who appeared to be the unofficial leader of the Auckland delegation, and tho following, who were declared to be selected candidates for the seats indicated: —Messrs, H. Ihornloy (Manukau), S. Rickards (Hauraki), J. H. Potter (Raglan), T. Lamont (Roskill), W. Alan Donald (Waitemata), and Mrs. S. M. Milne (Auckland West). Mr. Stallworthy's Attitude Mr. H. H. Corbin, who recently announced that ho had received the party nomination for the Ilotorua seat, and Mr. H. Caro, who has been spoken of ns a candidato for the Hamilton seat in the Democrat interest, travelled by the evening train. Mr. A. J. Stallworthy, M.P. for Eden, also left to attend tho conference, although he stated as recently as last Friday that he had not committed himself as a Democrat candidate and would not do so until he had more information as to the party's personnel and policy. His presence at the conference may _bo taken as an indication of his desire to obtain that information. Others who accompanied tho P ai |y yesterday were Messrs. H. C. Baulf, Auckland organiser of the Democrat Party H. W. Fiddes, of Takapuna, J. Keegan, R. H. Greville, who unsuccessfully contested the Waitemata seat as a United candidato in 1928, W. Clark, J. H. Arthur, and J. Bollard, of Glen Eden. Mr. Hilton Arthur, the candidate for Grey Lynn, will leave bv the afternoon express to-day, while Mr. .J. Caughley, tho selected candidato for Kaipara, is already in Wellington. Comment on Delegation Commenting last evening on the constitution of the Auckland delegation, Mr. J. Hislop said many of tho delegates could have no standing at the conference. He understood that Mr. J. B. Donald would not be a candidate for Auckland Fast as had been suggested, but Mrs. Milne and Messrs. W. Alan Donald, Lamont, Thornley, Rickards and Hilton Arthur were properly selected candidates. Mr. J. j H. Potter bad resigned from the Auck- 1 land executive a month ago and- had | not been selected for any seat. He know nothing of Messrs. Fiddes or Bollard. while Messrs. Keegan and Greville had not been members of the executive and had not been chosen as likely candidates. As far as he knew, Mr. Clark had never had any association with the pattv.

It is stater! that the invitation originally extended to Mr. F. W. Doidge to attend the conference has been withdrawn' in conseouence of his decision to contest the Rotortia seat as an Independent. Sir Alexander Herdman did not leave for Wellington yesterday.
