MIMIC WARFARE
AMERICAN ARMY DEFENCE OF SEABOARD LARGE-SCALE MANOEUVRES TROOI'S MOVED BY TAXIS By Telegraph—Picas Association—Copyright (Received August 19, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 10 The north-eastern section of the United States, comprising the States of New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, became a war zone to-day, as 75,000 troops concentrated on strategic points, prepared to repel the enemy. Of course, all this was imaginary, but the military authorities are taking the manoeuvres most seriously, on the theory that if the country is ever attacked the Atlantic side and the wealthy north-eastern industrial area will most likely be the chief objective of the enemy. Conditions simulating war ns nearly as possible have been invoked during the manoeuvres, which are on the largest scale in America's peace-time history. Hundreds of tanks, armoured cars, mobile machine-gun units, heavy artillery, and aeroplanes have been concentrated in the " war zone " within the last few days. Two thousand five hundred taxicabs, impressed into the transport service here, moved an entire division of 8000 men to a camp 400 miles distant within ten hours.
