Miss Lesley Jackson, of Rcmuera, is tho guest of Mrs. A. W. Ulair, of Wellington. Miss Hilda Collier, of Ponsonby Road, left by tbo Ruabine on Saturday for England. Mrs. Percy Hamilton, who lias been visiting relatives in Takapuna, has returned to Cbristchureb. 31rs. A. M. Suckling, of Fiji, will leave Auckland to-morrow by the Niagara on ber return journey. I Miss Hilda Biss, of Cbristchurch, who has been spending three months in Auckland, has returned South. Mrs. George Ritchie and Miss Elizabeth Ritchie, of Dunedin, and Mrs. F. R. Jones, of Wellington, are at the Grand Hotel. Mrs. Moffat Clow, of Belfast, who has been staying for somo time at Glenalvon, left yesterday on a tour of the Dominion. Mrs. Callan, with Mr. Justice Callan and their son, Avho have been staying ! at Glenalvon, left by motor-car yesterday for Hamilton. Mrs. G. Cotterill, of Tokomaru Bay, Mrs. H. Munro and Mrs. F. Taylor, of Dunedin, Mrs. W. Buist, of Oainaru, Mrs. Trevor Hosking, of Whangarei, 3frs. G. Osborne-Lilly, of Wellington, and INLiss E. L. Hellaby, of Nihotupu, are at the Station Hotel. The monthly meeting of the Auckland branch of the Women's League of the British-Israel World Federation was held on Thursday afternoon. An interesting address was given by Mrs. Cranston, the president, her subject being " The Goodly Cedar." Tea was served. The monthly meeting of the Otahuhn branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held on Thursday afternoon. Au address was given by the Rev. T. R. B. Woolloxall, after which tea was served by Mrs. Williamson and Mrs. West. Mrs. Ashcroft and Mrs. Williamson were appointed delegates to the forthcoming convention. The problem 0 f combating various evils of tbo present day was discussed by Mrs. Hugh Kasper iu an address to members of the Northcote Women's Christian Temperance Union at a meeting held last week. Miss Piper presided. A petition for the abolishment of poverty, which it is intended shall be forwarded to the King, was signed by the members. A solo " My Task " was rendered by Airs. Allely. The Auckland Toy Dog Club held a bridgo and five-hundred afternoon in the tearooms of George Court and Sons, Limited. Mrs. G. Hunt was the hostess. The winner of bridge was Mrs. Nelson, and of five-hundred Mrs. Ward. Consolation prizes went to Mrs. Jamieson and Mrs. Ross. Also present were: —Mesdames J. Whvman, H. Sheldon, W. Jamieson, S. Ward, J. Shaw, F. Sanft, A. Stanley, G. Tillotson, Y. Ross. H. Aitken, J. Joseph, J. Bell and M. Nelson.
