The horses mentioned include Wilveranj and Tennessee Wood, crack four-year-olds, who could bo'raced against Gamble and Graham Direct, and Lawn Derby, a brilliant mile and a-half unhoppled pacer. If the project materialises, Addington will see one of tho greatest crowds in the history of trotting, ' and even the sensational Walla Walla meeting may be exceeded. International racing is required to give the sport a lift along, even in Canterbury, tho trotting stronghold. Gamble and Graham Direct have suffered no ill-effects as a result of their gruelling races at the recent meeting, and both will bo seen in action in tho near future. It is generally recognised that no faster four-year-olds than these two have been raced at Addington at this period of the year. Gamblo is a very brilliant colt, but still babyish vand inexperienced, and, if lie trains on in the right way, ho should develop into a groat pacer later in the season. He is a genuine stayer, and, although a slow beginner, ho unwinds great speed when onco he finds his feet. He is faster than War Buoy was at his ago and may win just as many races. He is still on a handy mark and a 4.35 class will find him on 'Sr near the limit. Graham Direct does not leave tho mark smartly, but that ho has speed and stamina is shown by his two guiles record of 4.21 2-5. He is in # F. Holmes' stable. Hoi L'Or scored a very popular win in the Farewell Handicap, although ho was at a double-figure price. Ho is now in lino to challenge Harold Logan for tho championship of New Zealand, and. unlike tho latter, ho can race all the way. He has improved in stamina as well as in speed, and can now stand more than one hard race at a meeting. The ideal combination of horse and driver is Roi L'Or and F. Holmes, and they look to be going on to further successes. War is still the champion his admirers thought him to ho, although he did meet with his third defeat. When ho does not have to do all the pacemaking ho will show his worth, and, if ho is admitted to tho New r Zealand Cup field, he will bo ono of tho early favourites. HAWKE'S BAY HORSES PROSY BOY FOR ELLERSLIE [by tf.t,egrapii—OWN correspondent] HASTINGS. Monday Prosy Boy is going along in tho right way in his preparation for the Pakuranga Hunt Cup and leaves Hastings for Ellerslie on Wednesday. This Lucullus gelding is a cut above the ordinary Hunt Cup candidate, and, outside his jumping ability, impresses as ono that would stay all day. J. M. Cameron is contemplating taking a team to Marton, Wanganui and then on to Avondalo. Sir Nigel, Maine, Gold Trail and perhaps the Posterity— two-year-old colt will make tho trip. Cameron's visit to Australia this spring is now definitely oil', J. Clements also may take a team of three on the Marton-Wanganui-Avon-dale circuit, including tho three-year-old Pakanui. This colt is going along most impressively and it will not bo surprising to see him winning ono of the early Guineas events. Mr. D. M. Douglas is hacking about his four-year-old . gelding Hornpipe (Captain Bunsby—Stardancer). Last spring this gelding gave every indication of developing into a useful hack at least, but after a couple of races trained off to run very badly, leaving his owner no other option but to turn him out. He was always a narrow sort, hut with the spell has thickened out. Solaria is in active work again after a light let-up sinco tho Trentham July meeting.
