NEEDS OF UNIVERSITY
COMING TEN YEARS INQUIRY TO BE MADE A committee to consider and report upon the principal needs of the college for the next 10 years iii to be set up by the Auckland University College Council. At the meeting of the council yesterday, Mr. A. H. Johnstone, K.C., said it was well known that the college was in an unsatisfactory pasition in regard to equipment, library and buildings. Another problem was land for future development. The council could not go on year after year doing nothing; it must look to the future. Another need, said Mr. Johnstone, was to do everything possible to change the <k atmosphere " in the city from indifference to the university to friendliness and respect. He moved that a committee be set up to report upon the reasonable needs of the college under the headings msntioqed for the next 10 years. Professor Maxwell Walker remarked that reports had bee:i prepared some years ago. Mr. Johnstone : I know of those, and no doubt they will bo available.^ The motion was carried unanimously. Mr. Johnstone said he was not ready to propose the personnel of the committee, and this was deferred until the next meeting.
