MORTGAGE CORPORATION INTEREST RATE ON LOANS INDICATION BY MINISTER An indication oli the rate of interesi on loans which the Mortgage Corporation of New Zealand is likely to adopt in its initial business was given b.v the acting-Prime Minister, Sir Alfred Ransom, in an interview with th( Christchurch Press last week. Sir Alfred said that while no specific rate hat yet been fixed by the corporation, i< appeared to him that the rate for interest and principal combined would be lower than the 'rate charged for interest alone by the average State lending department to-day. Final arrangements for starting active business aro now being discussec by the executive officers of the corporation and the Government, and il is likely that the vital point about interest on the coiporation's bonds ant its lending rates will be announcer very shortly, when the corporator prospectus is issued. Sir Alfred said il was possible that no definite announcement about the actual rates of interesi to be charged would be made unti the issue of the prospectus. The Mortgage Corporation was in i position to start business immediately Sir Alfred added, and had suffir-ieni capital in hand for extensive activities at the moment.
