SIR ALEXANDER HERDMAN

Sir,—When Margaret Harding, under the above heading in your columns, says that " Kaipara will leave no stone unturned ill giving practical and renewed confidence in its member, she voices tho opinion of a part only or tho electors. Tho fact cannot be disguised that a great many havo como to realise that although tho electors are indebted to their member for tho spending in tho electorate of Ivaipara's fair share of public money, they, along with the rest of Now Zealand, are being forced to live in a state of the most stupid, unnecessary privation; that such things as tinkering with the sanctity of contract, breaking tho Ottawa Agreement, are quickly bringing disaster; that unfortunately proficiency in tho gentle art of vote catching is not tho best qualification for a good statesman. Tho section of Kaipara that looks upon tho return of Labour as disastrous Is fast diminishing. Moro and more electors are realising tho true nature of our problems, and that Labour intends to tackle tho problem at its root, whilo tho present Government has morely tinkered round with tho fringe in the hope that it will distribute the suffering a little more evenly to' keep the people quiet until something turns up. T. R. Wreaks. Pukehuia, Dargaville.
