QRURU-FAIRBURN COMPANY, MAORI REPRESENTATION [by TELEGRAPH —OWN" correspondent] KAITAIA. Sunday The 34th annual meeting of the Oruru-Fairburn Dairy Company was held at Peria on Friday, when there was a good attendance of shareholders. The chairman of directors, Mr. J. W. Hoskin, presided, and stated that owing to the advance in butter prices since the year's accounts were closed and the greater return of the butter on hand then, it was anticipated that the payment to suppliers for the year would average about 9d per lb. for butter-fat. It was expected to pay out a bonus of Id per lb. on last year's supplies during September. The chairman also said that the company had effected a saving of £350 a year on the new cream-carting contracts. The report and balance-sheet, a precis of which appeared in tha Herald of July 19. was adopted. Mr. W. H. Atkins was re-elected auditor. A notice of motion that the articles of association of the company ba amended so as to provide for a Maori representative .on each board of directors was held over till next annual meeting, so that the legal position could be ascertained and placed before shareholders. In the discussion the chairman stated that one-third of the suppliers to the company were natives and they supplied one-seventh of the batterfat supply. It was decided to hold the annua) picnic of suppliers as usual and a committee consisting of Messrs. G. Rylands, chairman, P. Lambley, P. Bourke, E. J. Nilsson, and A. Frew, was appointed to assist the director with the arrangements. After the company's • business had been transacted Mr. X. Clifford, secretary of the Mangonui Group Herd-test-ing' Association, spoke to suppliers on the advantages of testing their herds.
