LAMBS VERY TIRM LOW BEEF PRICES The following cablegrams regarding the Smithfield market at the close of business last week have been received : New Zealand Meat Producers' Board. —Lambs: The market continues very firm with slightly higher prices. Consumption remains good. Mutton: Wethers also remain firm with a fair demand. Ewes remain dull and unchanged. Beef: The market is affected by the low prices of chilled beef and the continuous hot weather. Porkers: The market is firm nt better prices, with more inquiry. Baconers: The market is steady and unchanged. Bank of New Zealand.—Wethers: Smaller supplies have caused prices to harden Ewes: There is only a poor demand. Lambs: The demand continues but it is not quite so brisk. Values are: Wethers, light, 4id to 4|d per lb.; heavy, 3Jd to 3|d; ewes, 2d to 2Jd; lambs, twos, 7£d to 7?d; eights, 7id to 7jjd; fours, 7d to 7|d; seconds, Cd to 6jkl. RABBITSKIN VALUES DUNEDIN MARKET WEAKER After moving upward for somes time, the Dunedin rabbitskin market was considerably weaker at. last week's sale. The drop in prices on standard winter grades was 10 per cent to 15 per cent, equivalent to 6d to 9d per lb. Inferior gradeß of winters, including greasy skins, showed a bigger decline, which was most noticeable in bucks. Prices still remain on a high level and it must be remembered that the quality of the winter skins now coining to hand is deteriorating.
