HORSEWOMEN ABUSIVE

BREAKING PARK BY-LAW BEHAVIOUR IN CHRISTCHURCH [by telf.craph—press association] CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday The behaviour of some of the horsewomen who use Hagley Park was strongly criticised at a meeting yesterday of the Christchurch Domains Board. It was alleged that some of them were breaking the by-laws laid down by the board defining the tracks on which they might ride, and that when they had l>een spoken to about it they had become abusive, using disgraceful language. A member said that for some weeks efforts had been made to stop riders from breaking the by-laws, and that many of the men on the staff had been trying to obtain the names of some women offenders, but had been unsuccessful. Other rangers who were not on the board's staff had also tried, but without result. The women refused to give their names. That in itself was bad enough, but to make things worse they were using abusive language. It was language that would not be allowed to go into print. The board would have to take some action, because the women would not at present take any notice of the by-laws. They simply galloped everywhere, and it was useless to remonstrate with them. The board discussed whether it should prohibit riding in the park and decided that if any more complaints were received it would take this action and allow only those persons who were given permits to use the park for riding.
