SEAMAN IN COURT

ASSAULT ON MOTORMAN IMPRISONMENT FOR A YEAR "When he has had a few drinks he is evidently a dangerous man," said Sub-Inspector Fox in the Police Court on Saturday morning, when Thomas Kelly, aged 30, a seaman, admitted charges of assaulting Frank Woodard and using obscene language. Mr. Fox said accused accosted Woodard, who was a tramway motorman, in Queen Street early on Friday evening, and struck him on the face. Kelly had had liquor, but was not drunk. When a constable arrived he used obscene language and had to bo handcuffed. He had a long list of previous convictions. "1 think it will be necessary to keep you in custody for some time, as you are apparently dangerous when in liquou," remarked the magistrate, Mr. W. R. McKean, addressing accused. "You struck this man without any provocation whatever." Accused was sentenced to imprisonment for one year.
