TRANSPORT ABROAD
TOUR OF COMMISSIONER TROLLEY BUSES IN SYDNEY The Commissioner of Road Transport for New South Wales, Mr. S. A. Maddocks, passed through Auckland on Saturday by the Monterey r on his way to the United States, Canada, England and Europe to study the latest developments in transport and the co-ordina-tion of services. Questioned on possibilities of trolley buses for use in city areas, Mr. Maddocks said three such vehicles had been put on in Sydney for experimental purposes, and for the training of men in their operation. " As in the case of other cities we found difficulties on the inception, but they have now disappeared," he said. " Our buses are running along busy city streets, and they are most popular with the public." Whether or not more buses of this type would be purchased, Mr. Maddocks continued, was largely a matter of finance. People would be moved quickly and cheaply by tramcars, and as Sydney had a large amount of money invested in the present system, it was a question whether the scrapping of this plant and its replacement with trolley buses would be justified.
