RECOVERY IN SYDNEY
BUILDING EXPANSION "In two years' time it will almost lie forgotten that there has been a depression,'' said Sir James Murdock, a prominent Sydney business man, in Auckland 011 Saturday, in referring to the progress of recovery in the New South "Wales capital. Sir .Tames considered, however, that extravagant expenditure should be carefully guarded against in the future, and that efforts should be directed along the line of reproductive works. The return to better times in New South Wales was largely due to the reappearance of sane government. Sydney's building returns provided an excellent illustration of the progress of recovery. During the worst years of the depression new buildings had decreased in value from £19,000,000 to an average of £3,000,000, but the latest returns showed a rise to £8,000.000.
