NINETY-TWO TO-DAY
MRS. NINA G. RUSSELL FIFTY YEARS IN AUCKLAND A resident of Auckland for the past 50 years, Mrs. Nina Georgina Russell, of St. Mary's Road, Ponsonby, celebrates her 92nd birthday to-day. Born in Wellington on July 29, 1843, Mrs. Russell is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Taine, who had arrived from England three years earlier. In 1863 Mrs. Russell went to Dunedin and remained there for over 20 years. Following the death of her husband, Mr. F. Russell, while he was visiting Melbourne, Mrs. Russell moved to Auckland, and resided at Devonport for many years. For the past 15 years she has been living at Ponsonby. Mrs. Russell has retained her faculties to a remarkable degree, and can recall with ease many of the happenings of the early days in Wellington, including the encounters that took place between the sjplciiers and sailors on "the beach." She has not yet been compelled to wear spectacles. Mrs. Russell's six children are all living. A brother is Mr. A. Taine, of Auckland, who was also born in Wellington. He will celebrate his 83rd birthday toward the end of this year.
