MENUHIN RECITAL
Since the announcement that Yehudi Menuhin would return to Auckland to, -give one farewell concert in the Town Hal] on A ugust 8, and that the programme would be decided by popular ballot, over 600 letters have been received by the violinist's managers, containing programme suggestions and requestEu These appeals hare come from aQ parts of the North Island. .As the result of the voting will be announced nest Saturday, all letters should be posted to reach their destination by Friday: Recently Menuhin granted an interview to an amateur violinist in the South Island, that singular distinction falling to JCthel Gibson, Timaru's little blind player, who has shown great promise as a musician. It had long been hex ambition to hear and meet one of the world's outstanding violinists, and her hopes were realised. During Menuhin's North Island tour representations were made from Timaru to inquire if the distinguished player would grant the girl an interview, and he replied that he would be delighted to sec her or his visit to Christfcbureh Menuhin does not grant interviews, .and it was only because of Ms sympathy with the girl in her blindness that he broke his rule on this occasion. In fact, Menuhin varied two of his" strictest rules on Miss Gibson's -behalf, for during his recital at Christchurch last- Saturday night he allowed her to meet him in the artists' room during the interval. Miss Gibson played three pieces, one being her own composition, and Menuhin was delighted with her execution and artistic interpretation. Yehudi has arranged for Miss Gibson to receive presentation copies of all his gramophone record release*.
