LEADING TEAM BEATEN SURPRISE BY UNIVERSITY GRAFTON DEFEATS PONSONBY The second series of matches in the second round of the Auckland Rugby Union's senior championiihip was played on Saturday afternoon in fine weather. >'o matches were played on No. 1 ground at Eden Park, this being given up to the hockey test. On No. 2 ground University created a surprise by scoring a narrow win over Grammar, the leading team in the competition. Two matches were played on No. 3 ground. In the curtain-raiser Girafton scored a good victory over Ponstinbv, the backs giving a fine exhibition, ilarist defeated College Rifles in the succeeding display chiefly through the agency of its forwards; Otahuhu claimed a fair margin over 'Manukau at the Show Grounds. Technical Old 3oys htid a bye. Following were the results of the matches: — University, 13; Grammar, 11. Grafton, 25; l'onsonby, 11. Marist, 14; College Ilities, 8. Otahuhu, 15; Manuksai, 6.
